A Rainbow From Maris
Maris sent me this the other day. It showed up while I was sorting through some things. I am sharing it with you. This is the second anniversary of our loss. It feels like yesterday, yet it feels like forever. We will love you forever, Maris, thank you for being part of our lives.

Deena's Visit to Patty Lekawa
Patty Lekawa lives in Crystal Lake. It is a long drive from Albany Park, Chicago.
Deena and a friend made a day of it, with 2 appointments back to back.
Deena thought it was a very good experience, and would like Ray, Alek, and Philip to see Patty, too.
Over to the Remembering Maris Blog for the rest of the story.

Yesterday at Light Source
We visited Light Source Church on March 5 because we wanted to see their presentation by a girl named Kendall, whose sister Hillary took her own life 3 years ago when Kendall was 9 years old. Kendall wrote a book about her experiences, and her mom started a foundation called Hillary's Hope.
It was interesting to see how people deal with suicide, and how they respond to it.
Rev. Patty Lekawa shared some statistics about suicide, which is the third leading cause of death among young people. Third is pretty high. Patty refers to it as an epidemic, and something needs to be done.
The presentation seemed to be more about education, awareness, and prevention. But it also offered some comfort to survivors by explaining that the decision to take one's own life may be a necessary part of that soul's journey, and an agreement made before they incarnated. It is very important that the person must not be judged or condemned in any way for their decision.
Patty played two music videos that portrayed different aspects of the experience.. The first one was How Do You Get That Lonely by Blaine Larsen.
This was a powerful song, and comppleted expressed our experience.
The other video was F**kin' Perfect by Pink.
Two different outcomes.
The Tunnel of Healing was also very powerful. Not a good idea to resist the urge to allow the energy to knock you down, because you end up with a crick in your neck. The alternative is to allow trained helpers to catch you before you hit the floor.
There were no messages for us, and we were really tired by the time we left at 11:45 pm. But I dreamed about Maris that night. He was very little in the dream, which seemed to be about rediscovering and sorting toys from when they were children. He was playing with a white plastic toy stroller with lavender and pink flowers on it. It had been purchased for him to help him learn to walk better. when I work up, I realized we never had such a toy, although we did own a white and blue toy stroller that was decorated with a smurf. I do not recall who we purchased it for...perhaps the daycare? as it had come from a resale shop. They used to enjoy putting their stuffed animals in it for a ride.
The meaning of the dream? not readily apparent. But I hope it will come to me.

Visit From Dan and Jeff
Two of Maris's dearest friends stopped by to visit on Sunday January 9. Dan was home on leave. He had not been able to attend Maris's birthday party in November. We are so grateful for these special people, who treasure Maris's memory along with us.

November 16, 2010
We have been attending L.O.S.S. support group meeting s on LaSalle St. the 3rd Tuesday of every month. It turned out that Maris's birthday fell on this particular Tuesday. I was grateful we had an opportunity to be with people who would understand on this special day. We brought a birthday cake to the meeting, and asked the people to gather round the cake. We gave each person a candle,. and asked them to make a wish and light the candle for Maris and add it to the cake.
Maris Birthday 2010
Some of Maris's best friends came over on the weekend before his birthday. We lit candles on Maris's birthday cake, and sang "Happy Birthday" to him.
We talked about what the last year had brought to us.
A lot of really fun craziness had always taken place at Maris's birthday parties. So after a while we went in the back yard and lit some firecrackers in his honor.

We talked for a while longer. It was a sSunday night. But I was grateful beyonnd words that this gathering had taken place. Special thanks to Peter Carparrelli for organizing it.
You guys are all very precious to me. You were special to Maris, and so you are special to me too,
Thank you for being part of Maris's life.
See you all again next year!

Alek was here on leave in October. He was here on Maris's anniversary, for which I was so grateful. We stayed up past midnight drinking absinthe.
Gail came over with some fruit (which went well with absinthe) and flowers.
Olivia was still here on October 26, too. Her presence was very healing. A few days earlier, Gayle Mack was here from Georgia, and had done some healings for Ray and me.
We will miss Maris forever...and love him forever, too.

Maris
This is our second Christmas without Maris. The world will never be the same again...but we are getting used to it...sort of...little by very, very little.
Last year at this time we were not doing so well. Life revolved around Deena's Remembering Maris Blog, plus the epidemic conjunctivitis she came down with on December 26 2009. It almost cost her what little was leftof her eyesight, which has returned about 75%. But the time was valuable for all sorts of healing, and figuring out why she was having so much trouble seeing.

Our Colorstrology colors:
from "Colorstrology" by Michele Bernhardt:
Alek, 1/17: Tandori Spice (dynamic, intricate, colorful) (pantone 18-1444) 4/23, 7/20, 8/1
You have passion and presence and are a force to be reckoned with. Your perception and intellect are highly developed, and you are usually one step ahead of everyone else. You want to make a difference and have an impact on society, so it is important that you follow your dreams without losing your center. Your personal color helps accentuate your true calling. Wearing, meditating, or surrounding yourself with Tandoori Spice encourages you to rest and to be receptive whenever it is appropriate.
Deena, 6/1: Daffodil (generous, spiritual, entertainer) pantone 14-0850 ; 3/19, 4/8, 7/23
Some of the kindest and most generous people were born on this day. You have an unusual mixture of inner tenderness and extroverted star quality. Balancing both sides of your nature will keep you busy as you try to keep a foothold on your integrity and express your talents to the world. Your personal color reminds you that by honoring yourself, you will honor others as well. Wearing, meditating, or surrounding yourself with Daffodil can renew your energy when you are feeling lost or depleted. It reminds you of the light and enthhusiasm that you have within.
Ray, 6/23: Bright Aqua (gentle, strong, creative) pantone 16-5422) 8/7, 8/21, 11/1
You are enormously creative and are capable of making things happen. You know how to make magic if you do not let your emotions overwhelm you. You need encouragement and supportive friends and allies. Your personal color gives you breadth of vision. Wearing, meditating, or surrounding yourself with Bright Aqua disperses self-doubt and increases your vitality and sense of self.
Philip, 8/10: Artisan's Gold (expressive, magical, musical) ; (pantone 15-1049) 5/27, 8/27, 10/18
Creative expression is vital to your well-being. You are enterprising and know how to envision your goals. You have a mind that is very active and at times can be a little hard to handle. A spiritual connection is important to help you channel the power that you have within. Your personal color helps you move past worry and self-doubt. Wearing, meditating, or surrounding yourself with Artisan's Gold inspires a sense of peace and gratitude.
Maris, 11/16 : Slate Rose (penetrating, unusual, independent) pantone 18-1635) 5/7; 6/1; 10/16
There is soomething unusual or exotic in your manner. You are definitely not a run-of-the-mill person. Your inner world is deep and mysterious. It may be hard to get to know you, as you keep much of what you feel to yourself. That is not to say that you will not fight for a cause and speak your mind. Knowing who you truly are is reserved for a select and special few. Your personal color helps stabilize your feelings. Wearing, meditating, or surrounding yourself with Slate Rose helps you move through life with trust and freedom.
